My artwork on its most basic level is a meditation on identity and persona.
The paintings portray figurative allegories of experience, thought and emotion.
Although they do not directly reference specific historical instances in time, I have
developed a more intuitive and mythological construct that emulates my interests.
The painting process is a dynamic fluctuation between creation and destruction, much
like the transitory behaviors and personalities we identify with. During this process,
the painting is created and destroyed, one configuration built on top of another;
they develop into archaeological effigies of paint and sculpture.
The subjects of the paintings are characters, seemingly from another world, but still reminiscent of ours, and are
frequently portrayed in the process of migrating from one dimension to another. The paintings are often interpreted as
passageways from an ordinary world to an extraordinary realm, the figure acting as a docent for the viewer. |
